title
ἰοίην
...it's the title I was looking for.
It is a fragment of a poem by Sappho, the 182 to be exact. it means " that I may go beyond." It is a wish to overcome one's own limits, a message of awareness and hope.
Description
The song of passion murmurs new freedoms to the world.
The beauty of humanity in the face of provocativeness, uncovers itself both fragile and strong, and when love reveals itself without prejudice, everything changes and nothing is as before.
You surrender to the senses with embraces so fleeting, so impetuous, to retrace the rhythm of the waves, in one moment light and slow and, a second later, savage and sonorous. The heart is a vessel at the mercy of the waves in unison with the warm winds that caress the face and chest.
Be it the prayer of a protective mother or a spell of a charming sorceress, what counts is the abandonment to the call of one's own instincts to explore universes of pleasures yet untouched.
And let the bodies, entangled in an eternal movement, reshape themselves in modern Graces and pagan Trinity for the catharsis of flesh and spirit.
All is done.
The backstory
I had this idea in mind for some time, then one day I decided to photograph it.
I have represented desire, free love. Free from all stereotypes. Beyond tensions and inner conflicts. Without limits.
After years of fighting and many rights acquired, there is still a need, today, to loudly demand these freedoms, because prejudices persist, and too many people assume the right to decide how others should live and who they should love.
Therefore, after centuries, the message is still true: ἰοίην!
Let's go beyond!
I am constantly looking for new photographic languages.
